Terms of Service

BerryMate · Effective 6 August 2026

Read this first: BerryMate helps you remember where you found things. It does not tell you what is safe to eat. Never eat any mushroom, berry or plant based on this app's identification. Misidentification of wild mushrooms can cause serious illness or death.

1. Agreement

By using BerryMate you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

2. What BerryMate is

BerryMate is a personal logging tool for foragers: it records walking routes, stores your finds and places, and can suggest a species from a photo. It is a notebook, not a field guide and not an authority.

3. Identification is a suggestion, never advice

The AI identification feature returns a suggestion with a confidence value to help you label your own log entry. It is frequently wrong, particularly with poor photos, immature specimens, or species that resemble one another. It is not edibility advice, safety advice, medical advice, or a substitute for expert judgement.

You alone are responsible for deciding what you pick, handle or consume. Always verify with an authoritative field guide or a qualified expert. If in any doubt, do not eat it.

4. Foraging responsibly and lawfully

You are responsible for knowing and following the laws, land-access rules and protected-species rules that apply where you forage, and for your own safety in the outdoors. BerryMate does not verify whether a place may lawfully be entered or harvested.

5. Acceptable use

Use the AI identification service only for identifying species for your own foraging log, at ordinary personal volumes. Do not attempt to use it as a general-purpose AI service, submit content unrelated to species identification, or interfere with, overload, or circumvent the protections on the service.

6. Availability

The app is provided as-is. The AI identification service depends on third-party infrastructure and may be slow, unavailable, changed or discontinued at any time, without notice. Recording, logging and maps continue to work without it.

7. Your data

Your logs stay on your device unless you switch on iCloud sync, which copies your spots, finds and species to your own private iCloud. With sync off you are responsible for your own backups; if you delete the app or lose your device, the data goes with it. See the Privacy Policy.

8. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any injury, illness, loss or damage arising from use of the app, from reliance on any identification or suggestion it produces, or from data loss. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by Finnish law, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.
